Last Month and this month

 Harsh words were said
and lies were told instead.
I didn't ever mean to make you cry.
But love can make us weak and make us strong,
and before too very long.
I was totally in love with you.

- Jean Jacques Burnel

I am already one quarter century and still breathing. Alhamdulillah. Please Allah let me live longer to die as a faithful Muslim and had made change to the world or the world of others in a good way even if it is just a small change before that.
So 8 April had come and go. The above statement is everything there is to my thoughts when my birthday came up.
I could say a lot of things and recorded every details regarding my birthday and what happens after that but then I just want to keep the precious moments to myself (or I am just that lazy, your pick).
I went through quite troublesome period of writer's block which lasted for one whole month. I didn't write anything in April. That month is the month where I could write a lot of things but I just didn't. More accurately, I couldn't. There are too many possible reasons for that that I couldn't decide which one is the culprit.
Everything is as usual. But I was inspired to write at 1.00am today because I was quite happy that I didn't bring home too much work (although its still there) and because I've done watching the most amazing anime series ever created by man. Okay, I am just exaggerating that because I loved the book the anime was based on and hence became inspired!
Talking about love. I have something to report:
I watched Inception after I send my friend Eda back to her home in Kg. Malaysia (I know, I was late in watching it but I am glad that I finally made it to watch it) last month. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and are in love (not in literal meaning) with Christopher Nolan which effectively rendered the previous post written by me as no longer applicable (plus I now think that he - the one I fell in love with is still such a kid). yes, I know how Inception made me uninterested to that boy is at best strangely related but please bear with me.
Okay thats that. And those were last month's story.
Back to main agenda. I want to gush about Gankutsuou!
For the first few minutes of the series I was quite put off by the CGI on the characters apparels but gradually I began to even love it and this is due to the fact that I can feel the spirit of Dumas' Count of Monte Cristo in each episode. I am amazed that sci-fi theme can be mixed with the more classical setting of the Count of Monte Cristo. We can say that the series is a huge success because this is the first time that I feel like i am not betrayed by the film-maker of my imagination of my favorite books. In this case...the Count of Monte Cristo. My most awaited moments is the beginning of each episodes after the opening theme where Gankutsuou himself will start by saying "Madame, Monsieur Bonjour..." and continue to summarize what happened previously in flawless French. I tried googling for the French script to no avail. Oh wish I could read them in French. Anyway, Confucius says it best to sum up the whole story: “Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves.” In this case, the Count is prepared to die for the sake of his revenge (sad to admit that I am like that too when I am feeling particularly vengeful). Anyway looking at the uninteresting google results I can see that this anime series probably didn't get proper recognition as it should which is why I am trying my best here to write more than one liner to describe how I feel about this anime series.and yes, I am at the end of my film critic ability.

Okay, that's that for May. yay!
Fin.

5 Centimeters Per Second. Impeccable CGI coupled with fascinating storyline. Kind of made me remember my childhood years. haha. I just love this story.

My Sunday

Storm Warriors II: Great CGI. However, i wish there were more and longer fight scenes. Its definitely more high-tech and prettier than Storm Riders however i feel that Storm Riders had a better storyline. Perhaps when i watched SR I was younger hence easily impressed. so all i can say is that i liked SR better. Besides, back in 1998 all the scenes in the comic that i read about this story is still fresh so i relate more to SR. they had a translated into Malay language version of Fung Wan comic back then known as Pedang Setiawan. But i do also feel that the the maker of this film focused too much on the CGI and forgot about choosing the right the story to go with it because all the actors in this film is great Chinese actors such as Ekin Cheng, Aaron Kwok, Nicholas Tse and not to mention all the veterans (and they were all my favorite too) and they definitely can pull off better dialog and expressions. I do not say that they should change the storyline as it already is and its a great thing that they didnt divert much from the original comic, i'm just saying that there are a lot of better interesting parts of the original comic that can be made into this movie given all the CGI that they are using.
P/S: I found this great blog that give back my memory of my ol' Pedang Setiawan comic and he wrote great entry too: http://eddie.bumicyber.org

Merantau (2009): Great fight scenes. I actually had to rewind a few times just to make sure i watched every moves. You can see how silat is different than any other forms of Martial Arts. In this movie, they showed Silat Harimau. It is interesting but there are many other forms of silat too. however, i am glad that this time around in silat movie the actor is skilfull in silat hence his acting potrays the greatness of silat. to me, silat is more purposeful and dignified than other forms of martial arts. the moves may appear like a dance, however, it actually aims for the vital organs to kill or joints to weaken the opponent. It also show that silat by itself is great to watch and we do not need much CGI EFX (if any) to show the gravity of each hit in a movie. Towards the ending of the movie you can compare silat and boxing. while silat aims for vitals and joints, boxing aims for face and abdomen. i already told you my stand so i do not need to repeat that this is one of the reason why i say silat is more dignified.

Ong Bak 2: Well, what can i say? I had many moments of gasping and open mouthed gaping. I momentarily thought that it'd be the sequel of Ong Bak but this is definitely different. No wonder all the essence of the fight scenes is captured beautifully since the film is co-directed by the fighter himself: Tony Jaa. For a fighting film...the storyline and the epic/fantasy setting is definitely impressive. Love all the CGI. My only complaint is that there is too many types of martial arts. so you cannot see the beauty of one particular martial art. you see glimpses of a lot of thing. I detected some drunkard kung fu and loved the scenes where Tien revenged against the slave trader. But in the end he couldnt get his revenge against the ultimate boss. too bad. Perhaps this is the logical side of the story that is you cant logically kill the entire army by yourself. haha. and also the moral side of it that is revenge isnt always sweet.

so...whaddaya say? action packed sunday? lol.

And the winner is......MERANTAU WARRIOR!

what can i say... i am bias plus Iko Uwais is cute.

Shinigami no Seido (Accuracy of Death)

Bought Sweet Rain@Accuracy of Death at our Night Market today. Actually it was the only watchable VCD out of three so i end up watching it. My VCD does not have subtitle. I had to download and sync the subtitle myself. Takeshi Kaneshiro did a marvelous job of being hot in this movie. I basically enjoyed just watching his face. The storyline was OK. I enjoyed the story but quite disappointed by the fact that he did not fell in love with Kazue Fujiki. i could use some cute love story. The Shinigami character played by Kaneshiro was too expressionless. Btw, loved the black dog. I had a few laughs and almost moved (but did not) at the ending of the story. However, this movie entered my movie collection for the sole reason that Kaneshiro is hot in this story. Ahaha. This movie is based on a Japanese novel. However it kind of reminded me of Meet Joe Black (1998). Both movies exploited hawt guys as the grim reaper.
The story isnt too complicated so i might as well not write synopsis as to not be a spoiler.

Insomnia

I didnt sleep last night. Yesterday i had a land law test at 3pm-4pm. then i went to bukit bintang to check out one of many warehouse sales. came back to gombak before buka puasa. had a buka puasa with Liza in my fav kedai makan. its a fav because for rm25 (total 2 persons) we get to eat nasi and various lauk plus drink and manage to get our stomach full. then went back to my room, clean up, pray, went to basic counseling class at 9.30pm. by 1200am today i am back in my room and decided to have a movie marathon. i dont quite remember what exactly i had watched cuz i definitely arent quite myself now. but i remember watching 'chocolat' while eating cadbury assorted chocolates that tasted like heaven. that was some movie 'chocolat'. 3 out of 5 from me. then i watched transformers! owh dat movie tuned me into my element. i was mesmerized.... 5 out of 5. brought back my childhood. i remember when we were kid, me and my bro will use our swords and fight each other around my grandfolk's house and me shouting 'TRANSFORMERS'! after that for all i know its 4.50ish am. and its sahur time.

and now here i am waiting for subuh. i plan to sleep after subuh to my heart's content.
forgive me of my movie marathon etc....its just i got rebellious after land law test cuz i slept like at 3am day before yesterday, woke up at 5, sleep...woke up at 9 and then study till 1pm...then get ready for land test and went for the test. so there...we got a full cycle! ahaks
