ACTION-GAZA: Can You Spare 60 Minutes? Can You Walk the Talk?

Brought to you by MuslimMatters.org (www.tinyurl.com/action-gaza)

Bismillah, before continuing, please check all pessimism at the gate, otherwise don’t read any further.

Feel free to use this post, in part or entirety, and circulate as much as possible. Copyright rules are waived for it.

FAMILIARIZE : Familiarize yourself with the Gaza situation, if you are not already. We have compiled a list of action-items (many from readers' comments) into one list that, inshaAllah, will empower us all. Now, it's time to do something.

This is OUR 60-90 minutes action-guide that WE should go through at least once.

Repeat one or more of the actions as often as you are able to. Do as much as you can, whenever you can.
NO ACTION IS INSIGNIFICANT.
OUR 60-Minute Action-Gaza Plan (one-time, not daily):

1. MAKE Du'a | 10 minutes | REPEAT Everyday
Print out the dua’s listed here: http://tinyurl.com/gaza-dua and post it on your fridge or any other prominent location. Read the du'as now and move on.

2. DONATE | 10 minutes |
Make a donation. Every one of you can make a small donation, even if it is $5. CAN WE MEET A TARGET OF $10,000 SET FOR MM??
• Islamic Relief USA
http://www.irw.org/campaigns/palestinecrisis08
• KinderUSA

• Palestine Children’s Relief Fund

• American Near East Refugee Aid
https://secure2.convio.net/anera/site/Donation2?df_id=1280&1280.donation=form1

3. JOIN MM's new DIGG Club on FACEBOOK | 5 minutes |
This is a means to increase the power of the word-of-mouth for important news articles or analysis:
• Learn about these tools: http://tinyurl.com/mm-digg.
• Join the new FB group by going to this link: http://tinyurl.com/digg-fb
(make sure you ONLY join if you are COMMITTED to spending 5 minutes maximum per day).

• Here's how it will work:
As soon as there is a significant/fair article brought to our attention, we will send a message on FB to the entire group.
All members of the group are required to do their part: to DIGG, SU, Reddit, whatever, within 48 hours of receiving notice (it takes only 1 minute to do it).
You have suddenly become part of blitzing truth over falsehood.

4. CALL GAZA | {OPTIONAL}
• Call any random number in Gaza, and tell them that you are calling from North America (or wherever you are), make Duaa for them and tell them all their brothers and sisters around the world are with them; this will give them moral support and courage ! How to call? > Very simple!
• Dial any of these number and replace the last 4 digits by any random ones, try 4 or 5 times and you'll reach a family insha'Allah ! Even if you don't speak Arabic, talk to them with very slow and simple English
(011)9728284-XXXX (011)9728282-XXXX (011)9728255-XXXX

5. SIGN PETITION | 2 MINUTES
• CAIR has launched an online petition drive to collect one million signatures. Be part of it by clicking here. http://petition.cair.com/

6. WRITE a Letter to the Editor | 20-50 minutes | REPEAT for other newspapers
Letters to editor is the most-read section in the entire newspaper, and is read by local leaders as a means of keeping up with the pulse of the community.
• Write a letter to your local newspaper (you can find it from the list here). You have a better chance of getting published than writing to one of the national newspapers.
• Consider these guidelines to increase your chance of getting published. The most important point: Make ONE point, even if you have a hundred swarming in your head. Be very succinct and add some “color” or “reasoned emotion”, it may increase your chance of getting published.

7. CIRCULATE | (EXTRA BONUS AJAR):
• Cross-post on your blog. Email it. Post to your facebook profile.
• Print out this hard-copy of this "Action-Gaza", make copies and distribute.

Talking Points for Letters to Editor & Congressional Representative
[remember keep scope of letter limited]:

1. President Bush and Secretary Rice should exert diplomatic pressure to immediately re-instate a ceasefire. Israel's military assault is disproportionate, inhumane, and immoral. U.S. is the only country that can effectively halt this violence.

2. All human life is sacred. Israel must stop its collective punishment of Palestinians, and allow critically needed medical supplies and food to be delivered to the residents of Gaza.

3. The Gaza Strip is smaller than the Isle of Wight, but it is crammed with 1.5 million people who can never leave. \ When bombs begin to fall -- as they are doing now with more deadly force than on any day since 1967 -- there is nowhere to hide.

4. The Israeli government did indeed withdraw from the Gaza Strip in 2005 - in order to be able to intensify control of the West Bank. Ariel Sharon's senior advisor Dov Weisglass was unequivocal about this, explaining: "The disengagement [from Gaza] is actually formaldehyde. It supplies the amount of formaldehyde that's necessary so that there will not be a political process"

5. The election of Hamas was in a free and democratic election, and it was not a rejection of a two-state solution. Rather than seize this opportunity and test their sincerity, the Israeli government reacted by punishing the entire civilian population. They announced they were blockading the Gaza Strip in order to "pressure" its people to reverse the democratic process.

6. According to Oxfam, this November only 137 trucks of food were allowed into Gaza this November - to feed 1.5 million people. The UN says poverty has reached an "unprecedented level."

7. It was in this context - under collective punishment designed to topple a democracy - that some forces within Gaza did something immoral: they fired Qassam rockets indiscriminately at Israeli cities. These rockets have killed 16 ordinary Israeli citizens. This is abhorrent: targeting civilians is always murder. But it is hypocritical for the Israeli government to claim now to speak out for the safety of civilians when they have been terrorizing civilians as a matter of state policy.

8. Israel had failed to abide by the terms of the cease-fire. For the overwhelming majority of the six-month truce, Israel had refused to ease its military blockade of Gaza to any significant degree. In addition, it was the initial violator of the cease-fire
when it sent tanks and aircraft into Gaza and killed six Palestinians on 11/4/2008.

9. Hamas leader in Gaza, Ismail Haniyeh, said in November that his government was willing to accept a Palestinian state alongside Israel within the 1967 borders. Haaretz Israel News, Nov. 9, 2008

10. Institutions of higher learning are supposed to serve the needs of their countries and are also supposed to be a place where diverse views are debated. The indiscriminate bombing of this university simply cannot be justified

Kesibukan

Its undeniable that being a Final Year student is not the same as being first, second or third year student. The life is hectic. The expenses is more. I had many assignments/ homework already which I dont know I can do alone or not.

Before I start rambling about myself I would like to invite everyone to take heed for the fate of people, fellow human beings in Gaza.
This is not racial or religious matter at all or per se. This is what us fellow human could do or at least could feel about it. whether we still had humane thoughts in our mind. whether we still had our hearts. Israel's attack on Gaza is unlawful in the eyes of God, other human beings and also Public International Law. We the ordinary people might not have much to do. It is in the power of respective governments to do something or not. Kaherah had shut it doors to the Palestinian. Thats just another country. The world is vast still. The duty to stop this atrocity does not lie on Muslim countries alone. other countries should speak out too. however, the duty is still more for the Muslim countries. We the little people might not make much difference. Regardless, if we act together there can still be difference no matter how small. It does not matter what is our religous belief. We can still work together. I dont like to be repetitive. However, I do feel that we should try to work on the advise of our former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. We could put economic pressure on the superpowers if we want to. There are a list of major companies which have a track record of Supporting Israel. We could stop the war by boycotting the companies. Visit http://www.inminds.com/boycott-israel.html for detailed list and informations.
As for me, the boycotting is quite possible. I could switch the what little 'impugned' product i used to alternative brands. Plus, its all the more reason for me to frequent ordinary mamak stall and restoran ONLY. I was saying, these brands are expensive anyway. Why pay so much for something that actually cause the war.

Okay, back to me. The life was hectic that i am forced to memorise my class schedule this semester. this is something that i have never done. Maybe my brain just knew that life wont be easy anymore that it helped me to quickly memorise the schedule. Anyway, there are two funny stories in the midst of this hectic life.
#1 yesterday I couldnt find the venue for my first Jurisprudence tutorial. the confirmation slip states LR1.10 so i went to a LR1.1 class. I thought the '0' in the paper doesnt mean anything but heck it does! I was confident when i entered the class because i saw three of my Jurisprudence classmates. Irfan asked me if i was in the right class. I said 'no, I'm just staying here for fun' He thought i'm serious and i thought he was just being funny. A lecturer named AH entered and I never met my own tutor so I thought Prof AB must be really influential for having some experienced man as a tutor. AH started the class with a lecture and I started to feel that I'm in the wrong class. I had to stay for 10minutes listening to lecture when two friends walk in. I told them to sit beside me and I wrote a note about my situation. Kak Hanis told me to just leave my stuff here and get out for my Jurisprudence tutorial. I took my handphones and when I was about to stand up
AH: "okay sister, whats your answer?" oh dem, i dont even know what class i am in and whos this guy and whats his question is.
ME calmly answered: "I think he should take the action on the day the accident occured" AH: "well, thats not quite it..."
ME: "...the day after?"
AH:, "hmmm, yes! okay sister there what if...."
and he moved to the next target and i didnt waste anymore time and leave the class. I was in the class for 20minutes, answered a question correctly and i dont even know what class that was!

#2 The next story happened this morning. I came to Professional Practice class without Bankruptcy Act 1967. I didnt even plan to buy it. I just cant tolerate the ridiculousness of buying each statute that was being mentioned. I am so not buying any statute anymore. I havent even paid my tuition fee and my money is dwindling really fast. I came quite late so I had to sit in the back alone. The class started and SK started to question people that had no Bankruptcy Act then
SK: "Yes sister at the back, do you have a statute?"
ME: (urgh....) "No sir"
SK: "why?"
ME: "Because i planned to have its softcopy (and its free)"
SK: "Where do you intend to obtain the softcopy?"
ME: "Well, AG chambers website, google, CLJ.com"
SK: "and what if you cant find the softcopy?"
ME: "Well, I said I PLANNED to have the softcopy. If i cant find it I'll just BUY it." (everyone laughed)
SK: "thats how a lawyer should answer"
ME: (pretend i didnt just hear that)
SK: "so if you obtained this softcopy can you email it to me?"
ME: "sure, no problem. Whats your email?"
SK: "which one do you want? a professional or personal one?"
ME: (sensing a trap) "It doesnt matter as long as its email"
SK: (agreed and wrote the email on the white board)
ME: (saved)
later this day, i found the statute online and tried to email him but his email is invalid. I tried to google him for his email but only found his home address (I dont intend to post the statute. haha). Fiza said he tricked me about the email for being 'cool' in the class. well, i thought i should give the lecturer the upper hand since he's the guru and i'm just nobody. as far as i am concerned he can win. hahaha

MAlam Tahun baru dan Tahun BAru

Malam tadi kami bertige (aku, fiza n bidi) g makan kat tempat western. Aku lupe lak nama kedai tu. tapi dekat Keramat AU. Terlupe nak amik gambar kat signboard. makanan ok la. standard la. akupun tekak tak western so tak reti la nak komen lebih2. cukuplah setakat letak gambar makanan kat sini sudeh. Pendek kata semua yg western ada la kat situ. Ice blended tu show jugak la. siap ade biskut oreo lagi. kitorang tak sambut new year's eve pun. tapi dah member ajak keluar. kita keluar. rezeki jgn ditolak. huahuahua. tambahan kalau dibelanja.

First day of the year adalah besday salah seorang kenkawan aku. nama dia WMZ (seperti yg tertulis di kek tersebut. haha) aku sebenarnye nak cakap, dia ni bf kawan baek aku - Fiza. tapi dia yg suruh jgn menghebohkan hal tersebut sangat. yelah aku memahami. ahaks. Anyway, sangatlah tak releven walaupun dia bf kwn aku maka aku nak citer pjg lebar lak pasal WMZ je kan. sebnarnye aku (dengan pertolongan Hafiq) telah berjaya membuat surprise kepada bidi pada hari ini. Malam tadi aku ngan Fiza pegi tempah kek kat Baker's Cottage tanpa pengetahuan Bidi. Kek tu OK la. ini pun lagi satu aku mmg kureng makan so aku tak reti nak komen tapi lebih sedap dari kek yg tak dijual di bakery la. harge pun berpatutan.

Hari ni Fiza n Bidi g la KLCC and Fiza membuat surprise dengan membelanje bidi makan di Chillis. untuk pengetahuan tuan2 dan puan2 semua, kami ni bkan la jenis yg g chillis macam pegi mapley so kire g chillis hari ni dah show gila la. Jadi ini kejutan pertama buat bidi. Fiza terpakse meninggalkan kete nye kat aku supaya aku bleh g amik kek and wat delivery ke klcc. maka aku ngan hafiq pun menjalankan tanggungjawab.

tapi seblom tu kitorang g isi perut kat KFC dulu. tetibe ternampak la skuad perodua era kat KFC wangsa maju tu. but, kitorang tengah rushing nak g amik kek so takde mase la nak tunggu kat situ.

Sampai jek kat Chillis aku pun main masuk je kedai yg aku seumur hidup tak pernah masuk dengan selamba je. aku cakap "I have delivery for table 6" and urusan men-surprisekan Bidi dgn management Chillis pun berjalan lancar. Manager yg bernama Chee (akupun lupe da nama dia, penat je berkenalan. ahaks) tu baik gak la kerana sanggup menguruskan hal ni. aku pun explain la yg "the guy doesnt know anything so he shouldnt be seeing me right now" bla bla bla. and Chee pun menawarkan bebudak dia untuk menyanyikan lagu hepi besday. aku pun dalam hati berasa yg ini sudah bagus pasal kalo harapkan aku nak menyanyi mcm tu kat public place mmg kem salam la. Fiza plak kalo takde geng mane la mau nyanyi. Hafiq boleh la nyanyi kot tp aku rase kalo dia sensorang je nyanyi baik takyah nyanyi langsung.

Tunggu punye tunggu kek pun sampai la ke meja mereka. satu la yg aku suka kalo g tempat memahal macam ni diorang pun otak western so kerja2 mcm ni mudah je. diorang plak yg lagi kreatif dari aku (maklumla aku tak western). aku tak sempat la nak tengok expressi muke bidi tapi aku yakin mmg priceless la (sile tengok gambar bidi yg masih dalam keadaan terkezut). anyway, waiter and waitress yg angkut kek tu pun mmg bagus gile pasal diorang bagi bidi nampak diorang ramai2 angkut itu kek tapi dok sebut meja lain and bile letak kek kat meja diorang baru bidi sedar kek tu untuk dia. lepas habis nyanyi aku ngan hafiq pun muncul and wish hepi besday kat dia.

lepas dah wish kat bidi aku ngan hafiq pun angkat kaki. Aku cuma bersikap sporting je taknak kacau daun. ahaks. maklumlah bkan selalu diorang ni dapat sambut besday masing2 together. so aku ngan hafiq berjalan-jalan dlm klcc je. harap maaf la aku kurang berminat dengan makanan western. dahla mahal. tekak pun takleh terima. tapi kalo bagi free aku santap je.

aku g la beli toilettries mane yg dah habis tu. and hafiq g tengok2 barang. kitorang nak tunggu diorang abes celebrate then bleh la balik sesama. tak lama pun kitorang lepak situ. lepas tu kami pun balik ke UIA.

Ni gambar aku ngan hafiq jalan2. Hafiq takde keje kat Sasa maka dia pun meng-abuse henpon aku untuk bergambar seorang diri. aku termasuk sekali dalam gambar nih.
